En la lección de hoy haremos un repaso del pasado simple con el objetivo de prepararnos para contar una historia.
El tiempo verbal pasado simple, también conocido como «Simple Past» en inglés, se utiliza para hablar de acciones o situaciones que ocurrieron en un momento específico en el pasado y que ya han finalizado.
Es uno de los tiempos verbales más comunes en inglés y se forma de manera diferente para verbos regulares e irregulares. A continuación, te brindaré una explicación completa de cómo se forma el pasado simple en inglés.
1. Verbos Regulares: Los verbos regulares forman el pasado simple agregando «-d o -ed» al final del verbo en su forma base. Aquí tienes algunos ejemplos:
- Caminé a la escuela ayer. I walked to school yesterday.
- Ella miró una película anoche. She watched a movie last night.
- Ellos bailaron toda la noche. They danced all night long.
2. Verbos Irregulares: Como vimos en el episodio 150, los verbos irregulares no siguen una regla fija para formar el pasado simple y deben aprenderse a base de práctica y así se asimilan. Aquí tienes algunos ejemplos:
- Comí pizza para el almuerzo. I ate pizza for lunch.
- Él condujo al trabajo esta mañana. He drove to work this morning.
- Compramos una casa la semana pasada. We bought a house last week.
Ahora, te explicaré los usos del pasado simple:
El pasado simple se utiliza para:
1. Acciones Finalizadas en el Pasado: Describe acciones que ocurrieron en un momento específico en el pasado y que ya han terminado.
- Ellos visitaron París el verano pasado. They visited Paris last summer.
2. Secuencia de Eventos: Se usa para narrar una serie de eventos en orden cronológico.
- Ella se despertó, desayunó y fue al trabajo. She woke up, had breakfast, and went to work.
3. Hábitos Pasados: Cuando se usa con expresiones de tiempo como «always,» «often,» o «when I was a child,» se refiere a acciones habituales en el pasado.
- A menudo jugaba al fútbol cuando era joven. I often played soccer when I was young.
Repasemos las preguntas y negaciones en pasado simple:
Para formar preguntas en pasado simple, se coloca el verbo auxiliar «did» al principio de la oración, seguido del sujeto y el verbo en su forma base (infinitivo) sin «to.» Por ejemplo:
- ¿Visitaste el museo? Did you visit the museum?
Para hacer negaciones, se utiliza el verbo auxiliar «did» seguido de «not» (su contracción: didn’t) y luego el verbo en su forma base. Por ejemplo:
- A ella no le gustó la película. She didn’t like the movie.

It was a sunny day in June when Emma started her summer adventure. She flew on a plane to a tropical paradise called Coconut Island. When she arrived, she landed at the beautiful island airport. Emma couldn’t believe her eyes as she got off the plane and felt the warm tropical weather.
The first thing Emma did after checking into her beachfront bungalow was go straight to the beach. She spent hours swimming in the crystal-clear waters of the ocean and built an amazing sandcastle. While relaxing on the beach, she read a captivating novel and watched the sunset every evening.
Emma also liked exploring the island. One day, she hiked to the top of a lush green mountain and admired the breathtaking views of the island below. She visited a local market, where she tasted exotic fruits and bought handmade souvenirs to bring home.
During her vacation, Emma met many friendly locals and other travelers. She learned to say a few phrases in the local language and danced to traditional island music at a beach party. Emma shared stories and laughter with her new friends, creating memories that she would cherish forever.
As the days passed, Emma’s vacation came to an end. With a heavy heart, she packed her bags and checked out of her bungalow. She waved goodbye to the island and promised herself that she would return someday.
