¿Alguna vez has trabajado en un almacén, una fábrica, un centro de distribución o algún trabajo manual donde tienes que cargar cajas, mover mercancía, ordenar productos o preparar pedidos?
Para muchas personas, estos trabajos son una puerta de entrada al mercado laboral en un país de habla inglesa. A veces no necesitas un título universitario, pero sí necesitas algo muy importante: entender instrucciones.
En un warehouse, o almacén, las instrucciones pueden llegar rápidamente. Escucha los ejemplos.
- Carga el camión. → Load the truck.
- Mueve este pallet o mueve esta tarima. → Move this pallet.
- Revisa el inventario. → Check the inventory.
- Pon esta caja en el estante. → Put this box on the shelf.
- ¡Cuidado con el montacargas! → Watch out for the forklift.
Y si estás aprendiendo inglés, puede ser difícil entender todo en el momento, especialmente si hay ruido, movimiento, máquinas, radios y otras personas trabajando alrededor.

¿Pudiste entender? Could you understand?
En este diálogo, Ricardo está empezando a trabajar en un almacén grande. Hay algo muy importante que hace; él repite algunas instrucciones para confirmar que entendió.
Por ejemplo:
- “Eight to four thirty.”
- “Scan the label first.”
- “If it’s damaged, I should tell you.”
- “Watch out for the forklift.”
Esto es muy útil. Repetir una instrucción no significa que no eres inteligente. Al contrario, demuestra que quieres hacer bien el trabajo.
En inglés, también puedes decir por ejemplo:
- Solo quiero asegurarme.

Ahora, vamos a estudiar dos expresiones muy importantes del episodio.
La primera expresión es:
- Put
“Put” significa “poner” o “colocar.”
Es un verbo muy común en inglés, especialmente en trabajos manuales. Pero en español, a veces se usan diferentes verbos, como poner, colocar, meter, dejar o guardar. En inglés, muchas veces usamos simplemente “put.”
Por ejemplo:
- Pon esta caja en el estante.
Put this box on the shelf.
Repeat: Put this box on the shelf. - Pon el paquete en la tarima.
Put the package on the pallet.
Repeat: Put the package on the pallet. - Pon la etiqueta en la caja.
Put the label on the box.
Repeat: Put the label on the box. - Pon la cinta en el paquete.
Put tape on the package.
Repeat: Put tape on the package. - Pon esto por aquí.
Put this over here.
Repeat: Put this over here. - Pon eso por allá.
Put that over there.
Repeat: Put that over there.
Fíjate en algo importante.
Usamos:
- Put this over here. Pon esto por aquí.
- Put that over there. Pon eso por allá.
“This” significa “esto o esta”. Se refiere a algo que está cerca de mí.
“That” significa “eso o esa”. Se refiere a algo que está más lejos.
Escucha otro ejemplo: “That one over there”. Ese de allá o aquel de allá.
“Over there” significa “por allá”.
“Over here” significa “por aquí”.
Vamos a practicar.
- Pon esto por aquí.

La segunda expresión importante es:
- Too heavy
Significa “demasiado pesado.”
En trabajos manuales, esta frase es muy útil. A veces queremos ayudar, pero también tenemos que cuidar el cuerpo. Si algo es demasiado pesado, puedes pedir ayuda.
Escucha los ejemplos:
- Esto es demasiado pesado.

También podemos usar “too” con otras palabras. Escucha:

Presta atención a los ejemplos:
